The Zurich singer-songwriter likes variety. She serves the genres of Irish folk, dialect pop/folk and almost everything in between. So it is no surprising that she released “Du, min Schatz” as her debut single, a dialect version of the Irish classic song “Danny Boy”. But she also likes variety on stage, which is particularly evident in her concert format “Stelldichein”. A few times a year, she invites other singer-songwriters from other genres to perform unamplified co-concerts at the Bistro Alte Kaserne in Winterthur.

Rose McCan‘s passion for Irish folk music began on a St. Paddy’s Day in a pub in Zurich, where countless pub-goers sang along to countless «Dubliners» songs. This was and remained an unforgettable and formative experience. Over the past two decades, the Zurich native has familiarized herself with many instruments. She joined the “Trousers of Kilkenny”, became a session-goer and was active in loose and fixed formations. For a while, she even managed an extensive event calendar for the Irish folk scene in Switzerland, led learning sessions and a bodhrán group and is still active as a founding member of the «Alte Kaserne»-Sessions in Winterthur, where she still helps to provide the supporting programs for top-class «Celtic» concerts.

Her joy in Irish folk music, but also her songwriting talent led the multi-instrumentalist to start writing her own songs and tunes in the Irish folk style. These are joined by traditional pieces, cover versions and her unmistakable “EirischFouk” songs (Irish popular songs in Swiss German). As a counterbalance to so much Irish music, she has also recently started exploring the pop genre as “Ros Rain”. And how could it be otherwise, here too the assimilated Irish soul resonates a little bit (certainly also because of the Irish frame drum, which constantly wants to get involved).

Rose is a curious artist with many facets, who particularly enjoys writing songs, creating unusual covers, preferring to accompany herself with mandola or guitar and enjoys working on her Bodhrán in informal sessions.
